Bettering the Breed

When we talk about bettering the breed, we are talking about a few different things at once. Bettering the breed consists of many things; it consists of health checking your sire and dam, breeding a sire and dam with a great temperament, genetics, bloodlines, and more. It takes years to develop a great program for breeding. We will generally go over some of these points of bettering the breed. We also have more extensive information on every point on our "read more" page, so you can better understand this breed.

WE TAKE HEALTH SERIOUSLY! We have unfortunately fell victim of purchasing a Rottweiler with health issues. Aside from spending top dollar for our Rottweiler; what hit us harder was the effects it had on our family. He was our family member and it was tough to have our son, Abel, watch his boy go through the uphill battles everyday. With our experiences, we have learned the hard way of what improper breeding leads to. We ALWAYS health check our sire and dam before producing a litter. They are checked for hip and elbow dysplasia, thyroid, heart, and eyes. We get these health clearances through the OFA or FCI (check out the health rating page to learn more). Making sure their vaccinations are on point and their hygiene is superb is a big part of our kennel as well. Von Ackerland Rottweilers wants to ensure all new owners that they will 100% receive a healthy new family member no matter what.

Temperament is a very important part when it comes to breeding Rottweilers. It's their outlook on life. Sociability, playfulness, alertness, their desire to be active and their interest in exploring an environment they encounter. There are many more things to look in their temperament, that is why temperament is a big part of our breeding program. It follows with genetics as well. The puppies will inherit their parents traits like we all do as people. Everyone looking for a Rottweiler always have different goals for them. We always make sure that both sire and dam have great temperaments to pass down onto our litters.

Genetics and bloodlines is a complex subject, its actually very hard to keep short of generally explaining. It takes years of learning and research. Genetics and bloodlines can effect your Rottweilers health in a positive or negative way. It decides temperament, structure, colours, markings, everything about your Rottweiler, it decides. The only thing it won't decide is what you do to handle/parent your Rottweiler. You will see advertised through our kennel as well as many others, "line-breeding". Line-breeding's are one way to take what breeders want out of the genetics and bloodlines or to eliminate through those lines. This is where complexity and "art" comes into play. We are a striving kennel. We are working on delicately combining the best genetics and bloodlines in the world to offer everyone astonishing Rottweilers.

(The picture to your right visually shows the difference between proper breeding (on the top) and improper breeding (on the bottom). These Rottweilers on the bottom will more than likely have health issues and are not to breed standard. Do not buy a Rottweiler because "its cheap". It will be more expensive in the end.)
